Chris Colombus discovers he hates America

Don't ask why, but I was looking at Chris Columbus' bio on IMDB and found this: NFL Dad right after I read that Zach Braff had halted production on his planned directoral follow up to Garden State called Open Hearts, an adaptation of a Dutch drama detailing a car accident and it's affect on the people involved.

I remember when Columbus at least made sort of original stuff, like Goonies or Gremlins. Was Home Alone II the warning sign?
